Starts 18th February for 4 weeks
Beginner Friendly
Ages 16+
10 hours total
This course is designed to help you build the skills and confidence to create jewellery from home -whether that’s simply for yourself or as a small side business for a bit of extra income, something many of my previous students have gone on to do.
Designed especially for total beginners, this hobby course is a gentle and hands-on introduction to the world of metalworking. Rather than rushing to finish one piece in a couple of hours, the focus is on learning solid techniques, getting comfortable with the tools, and enjoying the process along the way.
Over the 4-week session, you’ll still easily complete one or even two beautiful personalised pieces of jewellery, but you’ll also have plenty of time to explore the jewellery studio and experiment with all the available tools while working at your own pace. There’s lots of space to play with ideas, try different techniques, and let your designs evolve naturally before settling on a final piece.
Through relaxed demonstrations, personalised guidance, and plenty of practice time, you’ll build confidence in planning and designing your own jewellery while learning the following:
* Use a jeweller’s saw for sawing and piercing metal
* Solder and fuse metals using a blowtorch
* Drill holes and add texture to metals using a Fordome Jewellers drill
* Add unique textures or patterns to your metal a rolling mill, hammers and texturing tools
* Different patinas and polishings methods
Your first 4-week session includes
* 10 hours of guided tuition and demonstrations to get more comfortable in the workshop
* Brass or Copper metal to practice with and make your final piece
* Solder, saw blades, sandpaper, and all other workspace consumables
* Full use of studio tools and equipment
* Access to jewellery making books and curated mood boards to help you design a one of a kind jewellery piece
** Please note that sterling silver is not included in this course price, and can be purchased at the daily silver rate.
The Studio
Workshops are held in my home-based studio in Feilding, Manawatū. The space is bright, well-ventilated, and comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests — perfect for small groups who want to learn, create, and connect. A small kitchenette is available for refreshments, and there’s plenty of free parking on site.
What to bring
Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, no loose long sleeves or scarfs, and tie back long hair. This is for your own safety while we use the blowtorch to solder your pieces.
Your booking confirmation (including venue address details) will be sent once payment has been received. This workshop is first come, first serve and space is limited.
