Sunday 7 December 2025 - 9am to 2pm

Beginner friendly

Ages 16+ (students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent)

4.5 hours total

This beautiful two-part workshop is designed for beginners who want to create a truly personal keepsake piece combining sterling silver and resin. You’ll learn traditional silversmithing techniques in the morning, and in the afternoon you’ll work with resin to encase a small memento — something meaningful you can keep close to your heart.

Bring along a special item to include in your resin piece — such as dried flowers or leaves, seashells, a photo, pet ashes or fur, a piece of lace from a wedding dress, or fabric from baby clothes. Your keepsake will become a one-of-a-kind reminder of the moments that matter most.

Morning Session – Sterling Silver Workshop (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Explore the art of traditional jewellery making as you design and create your own sterling silver pendant. Using silver sheet and wire, you’ll learn how to saw, shape, and solder metal to create a setting for your resin gemstone. Add a personal touch through stamped lettering, cut-out details, or embellishments — crafting a pendant or charm that’s uniquely yours.

(Please note: a chain or bracelet is not included, so bring one from home if you wish to wear your pendant after the class.)

Lunch Break – 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Take a short break to relax and recharge before the resin session. Tea, coffee and a few light snacks will be available, but please bring your own lunch if you think the day will get too long without a proper meal.

Afternoon Session – Resin Workshop (12:30 PM – 2:00 PM)

Under the guidance of Martinett Gouws from Resinated Arts, you’ll learn how to pour and cure resin to create a gemstone that beautifully encapsulates your chosen keepsake. You can keep your resin clear or tint it with colour from a selection of bright dyes for a more vibrant effect.

Please bring several small mementos (the smaller the better, but no bigger than approximately 2cm x 2cm) so you can choose the perfect fit for your finished silver design. All tools, resin, and materials are provided — just bring your own keepsake items to include.

(You also have the option to book an additional resin session directly with Martinett to create a bamboo paddle board — a great add-on to your resin experience!)

The Studio

Workshops are held in my home-based studio in Feilding, Manawatū. The space is bright, well-ventilated, and comfortably accommodates up to 8 guests — perfect for small groups who want to learn, create, and connect. A small kitchenette is available for refreshments, and there’s plenty of free parking on site.

What to bring

Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, no loose long sleeves or scarfs, and tie back long hair.  This is for your own safety while we use the blowtorch to solder your pieces.

Whether you’re new to silversmithing or just love to create, this workshop is a relaxed and rewarding way to spend the day — and you’ll go home wearing your own handcrafted silver rings.

Your booking confirmation (including venue address details) will be sent once payment has been received.
