Sat 11th April - Beginner Poppy Pendant Workshop

Saturday April 11th - 10am to 3pm

Beginner friendly

Ages 16+ (students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent)

5 hours total

As we start thinking about ANZAC day and the brave men and women who fought for our country in many previous wars, I felt the need to make a few poppy pieces to honour those men and women in my own little way.  And I thought that there are some of you who might also like to make a poppy pendant either for yourself or for a loved one as a way to show our thoughts and respect in the next few weeks.

Don't worry if you have no previous silversmith experience, as this workshop will also act as an easy and stress free introduction to jewellery making.

In this workshop you will only make the poppy flower petals yourself, the poppy seed head and stamen components will already be finished and ready for you to thread and solder onto your poppy petals to complete the flower.  If you've attended some of my previous workshops and feel up for the challenge to make your own seed head and stamens components, then please click here to have a look at the extended poppy workshop available.

When you join this workshop, you will learn a range of traditional silversmithing techniques, including how to:

* Use a disk cutter and jeweller's saw to cut your poppy flower out of sterling silver sheet metal

* Use a doming block, hammers and needle files to refine your design

* Solder the different components together

* Drill a whole with a flex shaft

* Add patina to your pendant to give it an antique look

Your Workshop Includes

* 4 - 5 hours of demonstrations and guided tuition

* Sterling silver sheet metal

* Silver solder, saw blades, sandpaper

* Full use of studio tools and equipment

* Drinks and snacks provided (but please bring your own lunch)

Please bring your own necklace that you would like to wear your poppy pendant on, or you can add on sterling silver necklace in the drop down list when booking this workshop and I'll have one ready for you.

The Studio

Workshops are held in my home-based studio in Feilding, Manawatū. The space is bright, well-ventilated, and comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests — perfect for small groups who want to learn, create, and connect. A small kitchenette is available for refreshments, and there’s plenty of free parking on site.

What to bring

Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, no loose long sleeves or scarfs, and tie back long hair.  This is for your own safety while we use the blowtorch to solder your pieces.

Whether you’re new to silversmithing or just love to create, this workshop is a relaxed and rewarding way to spend the day — and you’ll go home wearing your own handcrafted poppy pendant.

Your booking confirmation (including venue address details) will be sent once payment has been received.
